Job Description:

Currently, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to join our team. As a Controller, you will oversee and direct general accounting activities for JVMI and affiliated entities, ensuring finance and accounting procedures conform to state, federal and regulatory accounting principles. You will also establish and maintain internal controls to support the financial infrastructure and present financial reporting and potential risk areas to senior management. This position interacts with all levels of management, donors, vendors, and business professionals and requires a high degree of judgment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting functions within scope of authority to protect assets and maintain internal controls ensuring proper expense approval and documentation of out of budget expenditures.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems as well as management of all balance sheet account’s monthly reconciliation, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve Accounts Payable vendor invoices, ensuring proper department level approval and account coding and once done, release payments.
  • On a monthly basis, administer and review all department budget line items and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with professional standards, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to support the financial infrastructure and ensure timelines are met, including objectives, payment processes, and other transactions.
  • Ensure financial deadlines to complete mission trip objectives and transact payments are met.
  • Manage and train staff to ensure proper reporting is completed in accordance with the monthly closing schedule.
  • Analyze expenditures for outreach events compared to budget; oversee reconciliation of cash spent against receipts as needed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate NGO reporting and availability of required funding.
  • Participate in the management of the annual audit and coordinate audit activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in either business or accounting or equivelant combination education and experience.
  • Six or more years related Controller experience; preferably in non-profit.
  • Five years or more management experience in the financial arena.
  • Experience with GP Dynamics and Management Reporter strongly preferred.
  • Experience with migration from one accounting system to another.
  • Proficient computer skills with MS office including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects/events.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong initiative and disciplined work habits.
  • Strong logic and reasoning skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with proven track record of success.
