Position at Seattle Urban Academy
This is a part time position located in the Rainier Valley of Seattle Washington.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Seattle Urban Academy is a positive, alternative, Christian educational community where high school students overcome risks and develop academic, social and spiritual maturity to graduate to higher education and sustained employment. Teach assigned coursework
in endorsement and assigned subject area(s) in alignment with Common Core State Standards and WA state learning standards. Establish a positive community of belonging and trusting relationships with students and guardians. In collaboration with students/guardians/staff/community
partners, assess, plan and facilitate student-centered development: academic, social, spiritual, community service, employment, career development, transitions to higher education and careers; incorporate community partners in student development.

- ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT
- Teach courses in endorsement and assigned area(s). Develop curriculum for each course. Align with Common Core State Standards and WA state learning standards. Measurement of effective teaching is gauged by student mastery of learning goals. Design curriculum
and diverse assessments for students to demonstrate and present mastery of learning goals.
- Prepare course syllabus per course per quarter. Review progress regularly with students and guardians.
- Develop academic learning plan with each student and guardian(s).
- Assess, monitor progress and carry through plans with each student to achieve academic mastery of 80-100% learning requirements, including after school study halls. Guide students to earn 80-100% credit per course.
- Maintain current grade book and communications with guardians re: student behavior and academic progress.
- Collaborate with all teachers and tutors. Oversee each student to complete WA state graduation requirements in teacher’s subject area(s), including off-site opportunities for credit.
- Facilitate exploration of careers and support efforts to secure scholarships and employment to ensure successful transitions to higher education and careers.
- Recognize student accomplishments in class or chapel and to guardians via phone or email.
- Document student development in written reports by each due date: student behavior, progress reports, report cards, quarterly curriculum reviews and other reports.
- Guide students each quarter to present or demonstrate their gained knowledge and skills to the broader SUA community or to serve the community, expressing their knowledge and skills through advocacy and love in action.
- Network with outside agencies to expand opportunities for students to gain career awareness, training and employment, leader development, awards and scholarships, succeed to higher education and careers.
- SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
- Nurture school climate of care and respect. Edify students and guide development in positive behavior. Coordinate strategies and support plans with students, guardians, social service partners and staff.
- Monitor and reinforce daily behavioral growth, report student incidents. Engage in Restorative Justice Conferences/Circles/Harm Circles as needed.
- Participate in post suspension re-entry meetings with student and guardian and other parties as called upon.
- Facilitate healthy self worth and growth in maturity of each student; work with students to develop strategies and incentives to increase self-managed behavior; develop healthy communication and understanding to restore property and relationships.
- SPIRITUAL

- Provide opportunity for students to grow in personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and respond to his love through lives of worship and purposeful service.
- Facilitate mentorships and student involvement in community churches, community service, mission trips and retreats.
- OTHER
- During prep period and following classes, intervene with students below 80% credit earning, resolve incidents and support student development, communicate with guardians, enter disciplinary and gradebook records, prepare lessons.

- Christian Commitment: vital relationship with Christ; displays Christ-likeness
- Education: BA minimum
- Experience: 1 year minimum with urban youth development and teaching Common Core State Standards, WA state learning goals
- Licensure/Certification: Washington state teacher certification; degrees, endorsements, licensures, and/or certifications in subject areas
- Software and Equipment Used: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RenWeb, NWEA MAP
- Other Considerations:
- Must be mature and act with wisdom and integrity to build sound relationships with students and families, CRISTA, Seattle Urban Academy employees and the community at large.
- Attire, quality and punctuality of work in keeping with professional business standards.
- Able to work under pressure and with time limitations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience
- Education: MA or beyond
- Experience: 3 or more years with urban youth development, teaching WA state high school subject area to meet Common Core State Standards, WA state learning goals
- Licensure/Certification: WA state teaching certificate in secondary education
